The HALO Group has been at the forefront of innovation in the furniture industry since it was established in Britain in 1976. The Group is a world leader in the luxury furniture and lifestyle market, with award-winning subsidiary companies (Manchester, Hong Kong and more recently High Point in North Carolina) servicing a global appetite for exquisite, hand-crafted furniture and accessories.

In 1976, Major Philip Oulton's passion for outstanding antique furniture and traditional craftsmanship led to the creation of HALO Antiques. His eye for beautiful, well-crafted design was not lost on his sons, Timothy and Charles, who inherited his intrinsic ability to see artistic value and perfection in a product's design. His enthusiasm infused them with the ambition to develop a lifestyle collection that encapsulated all of the skills and
talents of true artisans. The HALO Group was born.

The global furniture division of the company was established in Hong Kong in 2004. Although a relative new comer to the market it has had unprecedented worldwide success and a reputation for designing and manufacturing distinctive, innovative furniture. Influenced by iconic designs of the past and present and over thirty years of industry experience,
the HALO collection is a testimony to timeless elegance.

With an edgy approach to Vintage, HALO creations are recognised in all five continents for their touching beauty, unusual contrast of materials, culturally rich inspirations and undeniable quality and craftsmanship.

Johnston Imports is a family run imports and distribution business run by Matthew and Tracey Johnston, with the assistance of their dedicated team. Johnston Imports are the exclusive importers for the HALO collections.

With International Design Director Timothy Oulton at the helm, our design team at HALO is constantly testing the boundaries of commercial furniture design. The team is influenced by their own rich industry experience and draw inspiration from cultural diversity and regular global travel.

When it comes to creating the right balance of tradition and innovation in an iconic piece of furniture, every bolt, every stitch, every detail counts. Each product is handcrafted using only the best techniques and fabrications. This is a tribute to the company's antiques heritage. Knowledge of ageless craftsmanship and detail reverberate in every piece of furniture.

HALO spends hours fine-tuning each piece: leather is patiently subjected to intricate ageing techniques, with each product requiring seven stages of hand finishing by skilled craftsmen. Each product also represents a huge number of man hours, necessary to achieve an aesthetic standard that ensures distinct individuality. Irregularities are protected rather than rejected and individuality is cherished rather than banished.

The HALO design team has extracted aspects of form, detail and finish to bring you a fresh, exciting interpretation of classic designs. All products in this collection are hand made by skilled artisans. Small irregularities in shapes, finishes and surfaces are hallmarks of such craftsmanship and should not be considered defects but as a sign of the unique authenticity – and cherished as such.

Timber Products

The aesthetics of our timber products are designed to change over time. With general use and exposure to your everyday lifestyle the wood will develop individual characteristics. To ensure the longevity of your HALO product please follow our simple care instructions:

Cleaning

Varying humidity levels within your home can affect the structural integrity of the wood. Where applicable use a humidifier and/or air conditioner to maintain a relative humidity (generally between 23-35 percent). Avoid placing solid wood furniture directly in front of oil radiators, heat runs, or wood burning stoves.

Sunlight

All wood will change colour over time. Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight to prevent fading. Rotate items placed on solid wood to avoid uneven development of the wood's natural patina. We also recommend avoiding prolonged exposure to direct spot light.

Protection

To prevent damage to the woods surface, water marks, scratches, etc always use coasters and mats. Blot spills immediately. Avoid solvents, perfume, alcohol, and nail polish. Plastic or rubber protectors may react with the finish and permanently damage surfaces.

Levelling and Door Adjustments

Doors require periodically levelling. The key indication when your doors no longer line up as closely as they originally did.

Moving

Avoid dragging furniture. This will result in weakened joints. Remove all items, especially electronics from cupboards and storage units.
We also recommend removing all drawers. It is better for you and better for your furniture. In the event of any staining or damage to your product please contact our office for advice. We will endeavour to offer the best advice possible to aid in the restoration of the product.

Leather Upholstery

Leather Upholstery All our upholstery is simple to keep clean. Our aniline leather doesn't require feeding, but can be enriched by using a quality Leather Cream. Otherwise simply dust the leather with a damp cloth regularly and vacuum the seat platforms to remove dust or crumbs.

1. Why is our leather so special?

We use top grain leather, which is the most luxurious in the world. Each piece has undergone a special 5 week tanning process involving natural oils to give it a beautiful finish. To produce our Vintage leather, our craftsmen carefully hand finish each piece in a variety of ageing processes, each taking a considerable amount of time and detailed work.

Each piece of leather used maintains its natural pigmentation, which means that no sofa or armchair is exactly the same - making it unique to you. The beauty of our top grain leather also means that it breathes easily and wears for longer; so you can enjoy it for years to come.

2. Do the markings weaken the leather?

No, they merely add to its individuality and appeal.

3. Why is HALO's upholstery so comfortable?

Each of our seat cushions has a foam filling which has a layer of fibre on top. The density of the foam allows the seat cushions to mould to your body as you relax and the fibres wrap around you to give you that welcoming softness. It also means there's no need to plump them before you go to bed at night!

4. Is there a problem with colour matches between sofa and chair?

Because each item from our leather upholstery range is unique, there are always slight variations from hide to hide. We are careful to ensure however that your sofa and chairs are made from the same "batch" of leather, so we can colour match the two as much as possible.

5. Why is our wood so special?

We only sell furniture made from the finest materials and ensure that the natural grains and knots which help to give the wood character are maintained.

6. How is my furniture made?

We use specially cured hardwoods and plywood to make the frames of our chairs, which also have a fully-webbed seating system to support you. For our wood furniture we source a variety of woods from around the world such as ash, oak and pine. We ensure that we source, work and act ethically and look to put back what we take out. We are also constantly reviewing and seeking improvement for our processes to minimise our impact on the environment, as we believe that our planet is also our home and should be kept beautiful too.
